Costa Rica Government

Costa Rica is a free, democratic and independent republic. The Government is primarily composed of three branches of power:

1 - The Executive branch which consists on a President, two Vice Presidents and several Ministries;

2 - the Legislative branch consists of 57 Representatives, who act as a Congress, creating laws.

3- Tthe Judiciary branch which is composed of the appellate, criminal and the Supreme Court, where the magistrates serve for eight year terms.

4 - A fourth branch of government called the Supreme Election Tribunal exists and is responsible for the organization, monitoring and verification of the electoral process every four years.
