The
official language of Costa Rica is Spanish. English is spoken by the population
of the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.
These people were brought by the English pirates as slaves during the Spanish conquest in order to help them steal the Spanish ships that were carrying big amounts of gold from America to Europe. They were first brought to the island in the Caribbean Sea and then to the entire Caribbean coastline from Mexico to Brazil.
In some regions of the countries some tribes still keep their own dialects.
The Bri bri tribe lives in the Talamanca Mountains. They live and act the same way as they did before the Spanish conquerors came to America.
Some other tribes in the north (Center) and north (Pacific) such as the Malekus and the Chorotegas, practically lost their dialect as they adapted to the new language brought by the Spanish.
Costa Rica and Colombia are the first choice for foreign people in order to learn Spanish due to the neutral pronunciation (accent) in America.
